Metro Detroit already has quite a few yoga studios. The pre-existing studios all, or most all, have teacher training programs. I have practiced yoga at most of the studios around town and I also did my 200 HR teacher training with one of those studios. I know that some studios even offer training programs twice maybe even three times a year. So how many students graduate from these training programs, how many students desire to teach others what they have learned ( I recognize that some students of yoga take a yoga training program to further their personal yoga knowledge and leave it at that)? Where are these teachers going to teach? What is the plan, what is the follow through for providing these teacher training programs, aside from making a buck? The advice is to start an LLC, a Limited Liability Corporation, sound advice, really, but then what? So how many sole proprietors of an LLC are drip-dropping around, like rain drops, trying to teach yoga.
Hense, the yoga cooperative. Like an umbrella, we all come together underneath the umbrella and rather than seeing eachother as competition for the next open yoga job at this studio or that fitness center, lets work together to build something bigger for ourselves and for the community. Yoga is about unity, bringing things together, bringing people together. Yoga is about healing...healing the disease that consumes our living breathing society, it is a tool that could help so many people, but how can we share yoga with the people who need it the most?
Let's come together and create a space where we can practice, teach, learn, grow, prosper and heal. Let's create outreach programs, let's share this wisdom with the youth so that they will have this tool in their tool belt when they need it, let's make yoga accessibile to those who are financially incapable of paying cash money but able to barter and trade. Let's find a way to make it work.
